i-Move launches AnyMap Mobile Navigator 2.0, a versatile Navigation SDK for professional markets PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 November 2010 00:00

ANTWERP, Belgium, November 11th – Following its introduction at the ITS Belgium Congress held in Brussels earlier this year, i-Move launches its AnyMap Navigator product suite, a versatile and comprehensive navigation software development toolkit aiming at professional markets. It consists of a navigation runtime, an API to integrate the runtime in other applications and a Skin Tool to customize the GUI.

AnyMap Mobile Navigator allows building location and mobility applications for professional and consumer markets. It provides an ideal framework for the creation of specialist navigation products, such as tourist guides, or solutions for specific markets such as waste management. Its powerful interface enables quick and easy customization and integration in existing applications. It runs on a variety of consumer and professional hardware such as rugged handheld computers, laptops, netbooks and tablet PCs. AnyMap Mobile Navigator is interoperable with the other cornerstones of the AnyMap product family that share the same kernel, AnyMap Server and AnyMap Desktop. Moreover, it can be customized with C++ or in .NET and runs on Windows mobile and desktop platforms.

 Following key features make it a product of choice:

  • Ability to integrate own data in the map such as own assets and infrastructure;
  • Usage of industry standard maps of Navteq and Tele Atlas;
  • Distributed navigation;
  • On-board and off-board multimodal capabilities;

AnyMap Mobile Navigator today already powers a choice of products on the market. These range from entry level consumer products, over multimodal navigators to high-end, hybrid truck navigation. Customers vary from SMEs in taxi business to global players in chemical and utility industry.

About i-Move

Founded in 2007, i-Move built its expertise through research projects in multimodal navigation, the development of comprehensive and compact private label navigation products and building ASP mapping platforms for Tracking & Tracing and Fleet Management.

Map data and location-enabled products & services have become increasingly available, and this has tremendously increased the awareness of businesses with regards to its potential to contribute to improved efficiency and lower cost, to environmental awareness and regulation compliance. As a result, demands of these businesses are mainly related to business-critical processes and applications and very specific with respect to quality, service level and flexibility.

i-Move addresses this demand by building and marketing powerful generic mapping, routing and navigation software development toolkits for professional fleet management and navigation. These components easily integrate with existing applications and interfaces such as an onboard unit in a commercial vehicle, with a fleet management environment or with processes in the logistics workflow, thus adding the power of location and mobility to our clients’ products, services and solutions. They also allow building standalone products.

The AnyMap products are available through a global network of business partners. Today we are actively developing this network by recruiting partners with whom we want to collaborate to identify, develop and mature professional location markets at large.

i-Move introduces its multimodal navigator during the ‘In-Time Goes Public’ event in Vienna, Austria PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 November 2010 00:00

ANTWERP, Belgium, February 4th 2011 – i-Move introduced its multimodal navigator during the first public live demonstration of In-Time services held January 25th in Vienna, Austria. It is based on AnyMap Mobile Navigator 2.0, the Navigation SDK for professional markets that hit the market end of 2010. It consists of a user-friendly journey planner combining straightforward on-board mobile navigation with server based, real-time journey planning. Its usage of real-time public transport timetables and either static or dynamic Park & Ride availabilities allow it to compute a truly real-time multimodal route.

Press_release_-_i-Move_Multimodal_Navigator_for_In-Time_-_Picture

The multimodal navigator checks available In-Time services based on the destination. The user can set preferred transport modes and specify journey calculation parameters such as maximum number of interchanges. If desired, Park & Ride locations within the destination range and available parking spaces are suggested to connect to the public transport network. Once the mobile device receives the real-time journey options computed on the server, the user can select the preferred route based on i.e. travel time, suggested bus lines & stations or departure time. On-board maps are used to show the journey plan and guide the user to its destination. These combine real-time guidance to connect to the public transport network and between the different legs of the journey with instructions for using public transport.

The easy-to-use, intuitive yet simple user interface has been built using the AnyMap Skin Tool. Faithfull to the AnyMap product family’s key philosophies, the navigator capabilities and functions can be integrated by third parties in their products or applications.

The launch of this product is the kick-off to the pilot phase of the In-Time project. It will rely on travellers in the six cities currently participating to the project – Brno, Bucharest, Florence, Munich, Oslo and Vienna – to evaluate the In-Time services and their impact on travel behaviour. It is available for download on the In-Time website (www.in-time-project.eu).

About In-Time

In-Time will pilot and validate an innovative pan-European approach to Real Time Traffic and Travel Information (RTTI) services. The reliable and real-time delivery of these services to the individual traveller and to traffic management centres is likely to reduce drastically energy consumption in urban areas, across different modes of transport. The traveller is expected to change his travel behaviour according to the information he/she receives, opting for the most efficient and quickest modes for his/her travel journey.

In-Time is a Policy Support Programme supported by the European Commission Seventh Framework programme of Information Society Technologies. In-Time is a response to the European ICT PSP second call for proposals 2008, addressing Objective 2.2 ICT - for adaptive urban transport management infrastructure and services.

AnyMap SDK-based truck navigation now tested PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 March 2010 11:34

In the Province of Drenthe, in The Netherlands, a new navigation system especially designed for trucks is currently being tested. The device is intended to stop trucks from driving through small towns and city centres when this is not their destination. Moreover, it will lead trucks around road works. Hundreds of local transport companies will test the device over the next few months.

The test was initiated by the municipalities of Drenthe, the Province and the transport sector of Drenthe, following complaints that too many trucks pass through the city centres, and so they approached map maker Falkplan.

i-Move, by means of the AnyMap SDK,  supplied Falkplan with the basic components  for the navigation tool, which was installed on the onboard computers in the trucks. The routes are calculated with on the Falkplan server, which are then sent to the onboard units via a mobile network.

The system will be tested over the next two months. If it is successful, it will be implemented on a national level.
